Digital Nomad at QOCO – Elisabeth has spent a month living and working in Bali, Indonesia

This November, Elisabeth Tadoe, our Marketing and Sales Intern, spent a month in Bali - Indonesia. She was eager to share her experience. So, we asked her how things are going. Here's what she had to say:

I am originally from Indonesia and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to visit my family (after 3 years of separation and strict travel regulations) and experience working remotely for an amazing company like QOCO.

How easy was it to organize the trip?

Regards to organizing the trip, I could say that we are well prepared. My husband and I used to live in Bali. Therefore, the transition were less complicated and smooth. We are grateful for this opportunity and also brought our kids along to experience the different culture and of course a little reunion with the family here.

Although, there are many options for workspaces here. We choose to work from home. Firstly, we managed to organize a great internet connection and a comfortable place to work. I think the workspace can make a huge difference to your productivity and focus. We are so lucky to have my family help so much during this season. From preparing our accommodation beforehand to looking after our kids while we both are working.

Was teamwork as efficient as if you were in Helsinki with the team?

One of many great things about QOCO is the international community. My team mostly works from all over the world. So, I didn’t feel any differences when I am working from Helsinki. Our communication had been excellent. I had a weekly meeting with the team, and also weekly catch-up with my oversight. My days are not full from a lot of meetings, which is great for productivity and I appreciate the time to focus on our tasks.

Anything that worked better than when you are home in Helsinki?

Bali is 6 hours ahead of Helsinki, Finland. I usually have a free morning with the family, check my email and slack message around lunch time and start working around 1 pm.

I've been here for just over one month now, and it's been an amazing experience. This is my first time working remotely, and I have to say, I really enjoy the flexibility and creative thinking that comes with it.

Any good-to-know that you would appreciate knowing before leaving for a trip?

When it comes to working remotely, it would be great to set clear expectations. Make sure to give grace to yourself and take time to adjust to the environment. Another great thing about working remotely is that it allows you to be more flexible with your work tasks. If I'm feeling stuck on one task, I can simply take a break and come back to it later or work on something else altogether. This flexibility has helped me to be more productive overall.

Finally, I've enjoyed my experience as a digital nomad in Bali, Indonesia. It's been an amazing opportunity to experience a new culture, eat delicious food, and see some incredible scenery. If you're thinking about working remotely, I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

QOCO fully supports remote work and temporary relocation to another country or city. Many of our employees are often traveling abroad, whether visiting families or just exploring new cities.
